Adopt-a-FamilyBack to Top

At the begining of the Advent Seacon, parishioners adopt a family from a list of names provided to the church and have approximately three weeks to collect the items needed for the baskets. Volunteers from the church will then deliver the baskets to approximately 120 families about one week before Christmas.

For more information, contact Mary Underwood at 442-8247.

Loaves & Fishes

An organized service for St. Paul’s parishioners to provide meals for individuals or families in a crisis situation because of surgery, accident or illness. Volunteers bring a single meal for the days requested. Friends and families, call if you know of someone who would benefit from this service.

Contact Norma Truax at 446-9317 to volunteer or request meals.

Meals on WheelsBack to Top

St. Paul’s participates in delivering Meals-on-Wheels to area residents for the month of October. Large numbers of volunteers are needed for this ministry. Watch the bulletin as the date approaches.

Contact the coordinator, Kathy Miles at 443-2849.

Share Food Back to Top

Good, fresh food at a bargain price – NOT a program for the poor. “If you eat, you qualify.” This is NOT a surplus government food project. Each month you will get $30-$40 in food for $15. One must pay and sign up a month in advance.

For more information, call Jody Legett at 446-4420 or come to St. Paul's School gym the fourth Saturday of each month between 8:00 - 10:00 AM.

For more information, contact the parish office at 442-5313.

Crop Walk Back to Top

St. Paul’s has participated in the annual Danville area Crop Walk for many years. Sponsors, walkers and volunteers come together and put heart and soul into helping fight world hunger around the block and around the world. The crop Walk helps support the overall ministry of Church World Service. CWS is the relief, development and refugee assistance ministry of 35 Christian denominations in the U.S.

Watch the church bulletin for the event date and time. To volunteer or become involved, contact Norma Truax at 446-9317.

St. Paul’s Food Pantry Back to Top

As a service to the poor, St. Paul’s Parish operates a small food pantry. Food distributed to the poor through the food pantry is donated by members of the parish. There are boxes at the door of the church where donations of nonperishable boxed items or canned goods may be placed or donated food may be brought to the parish office during the week

People in need may request food once a month by calling the parish office at 442-5313

Volunteers may help by carrying boxes of food from church to the office, sorting and shelving food or preparing bags of food for distribution.

To volunteer to help with the food pantry, please call Cindy Harden or Sr. Charles Allen at the parish office at 442-5313

Parish Nurse Back to Top

St. Paul’s is blessed to have several regestered nurses (RNs) who serve as parish nurses. Our parish nurses are not permitted, for insurance and liability purposes, to provide most "Hands on" medical services and treatments to individual patients, but they are an excelent resource for all kinds of information.

Just some of the things that you can call on the parish nurses to help with include:

o Asking for an assessment of a patient and care options (such as yourself, a spouse, an elderly parent, etc....)
o Individual counseling and support for health-related issues like: cancer, heart/stroke, HIV/Aids, high blood pressure, diabetes, wound care, disability, managing medications, etc....
o Referrals for all kinds of medical services, including: in-home, outpatient, residential programs and insurance issues.

St. Paul's parish nurses also help with health-related educational and screening programs. From time to time, they conduct health seminars, arrange for guest speakers, teach classes on health care and disease prevention, and provide screenings such as for blood pressure (as they do at each "Freedoeirm Years Luncheon"). If you have a suggestion for a particular program, the parish nurses can consider it based on th availability and scope of the need.

If you would like to discuss a health-related situation in confidence, please call the director of our Parish Nurse Program, Mary Weicherding, RN, at 443-2029 or contact the parish office at 442-5313.

Bereavment Ministry Back to Top

Grief and loss support – another way we continue Jesus healing ministry. The focus is support to those suffering the loss of a loved one or friend to death with the awareness that the grieving process is not something that is over within a couple of weeks, month, or even at times years. This ministry provides support to those who have lost a loved one.

For more information, please contact Mary Weicherding at 443-2029.

Visiting Nursing Homes & Homebound Back to Top

This group assists our Pastor by visiting those who are not able to attend Mass. We bring Holy Communion to the homebound and those in nursing homes and hospitals.

An extraordinary minister to the sick and homebound must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, with a sympathetic heart for the sick and a strong feeling for giving comfort and love to them.

If you or someone you know needs homebound ministry, contact the parish office at 442-5313

Faith In Action Back to Top

For more information, contact Pat Tarr at 431-8489.

Wedding CoordinatorBack to Top

A wedding coordinator is a person who helps coordinate weddings at St. Paul's. This role includes attending rehearsals and weddings, assisting the wedding parties and Fr. Nelson with various preparations, lining and cleaning up after the wedding and arranging the sancturary area for weddings.

Call Alinda Higgins at 217-369-6365 or Mary Ann Dodd at 443-6920 for this service.

Welcome Committee Back to Top

This committee welcomes new parishioners and provides them with information about the parish. New members of St. Paul's are referred to committee members who are available for home visits as well as delivering parish information and a church directory.
